Medieval enclosure
The only medieval enclosure almost entirely preserved in Lebanon is that of Byblos. The enclosure has been the most important means of protection used for millennia.
It is, in fact, a high, thick wall with several towers encircling the city to protect it from external attacks. The enclosure is punctuated with large gates that designate access to the city, as well as smaller, more discreet gates that also facilitate entry.
