About
The President Michel Sleiman Sports village. in Jbeil was inaugurated on May 4, 2014, largely funded by Lebanese-Mexican mogul Carlos Slim, it spans 22,000 square meters on a land provided by the Maronite Church.
The village features a 2,000-seat basketball court, an international-standard volleyball court, a semi-Olympic indoor heated pool, and courts for martial arts, ping-pong, and squash.
The second phase, completed in March 2017, added a semi-Olympic swimming pool and two fitness rooms. A third phase is planned to include a conference venue with a theater.
The village is equipped with advanced air conditioning, Turkish baths, and medical facilities for player treatment.
Future expansions include an outdoor football field, equestrian terrain, and specialized athletics fields. The sports village serves all clubs in the Jbeil region, not just those in Byblos.
About Byblos
The city of Jbeil is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. 8,000 years ago, it was a fishermen village that grew afterwards to a large Canaanite and then Phoenician city. Later on, it was turned into a Roman agglomeration whose many vestiges can still be observed, suggesting an ancient richness. An important Crusader city, Jbeil was fortified by the still-visible rampart within the walls of which a castle and a cathedral were built. During the Ottoman period, the city had a souk, large houses with red-tiled roofs and mosques.
